A five-day intensive mart management development programme has been launched by the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS).
The course will be delivered by Technological University Dublin, in the Tallaght Campus, and ICOS Skillnet from its Portlaoise base.
The programme will comprise of 12 modules including co-operative governance, finance, employment legislation and a number of other topics.
Group work and assignments will make up part of the coursework and already mart managers and their deputies from nine marts have signed up to the programme.
Marts
Marts that have signed up include Aurivo Marts, Athenry Mart, Central Auctions, Clare Marts, Cork Marts, Mid-Tipp Mart, Roscommon Marts, Waterford Ross Mart and Wexford Farmers Co-op Mart.
“Our marts also operate in a very competitive and challenging climate and, in that context, it is essential that they have an eye to the future on management and organisational capabilities that they must promote to ensure continuity and success on a progressive and forward looking basis,” president of ICOS Michael Spellman said.
