The Revenue has ordered Clem Tully, Slatta, Kilglass, Co Roscommon, to pay €72,784 for the non-declaration of capital gains tax.

Tully’s name appears on the most recent list of tax defaulters published by the Revenue with €66,599 unpaid by 31 December 2018.

Income tax returns

Some 18 farmers were fined for failing to lodge income tax returns, with fines ranging from €1,250 to €20,000.

The highest fine of €20,000 issued was to farmer, Alan Sherwood, Knavinstown House, Knavinstown, Kildare, Co Kildare, who faced four charges of failing to lodge tax returns.

James Fitzpatrick, Appletown, Feohanagh, Co Limerick (two charges) and PJ O’Donnell, Nodstown, Cashel, Co Tipperary (three charges) received the next biggest fines of €4,000 and €3,750, respectively.

Four farmers were also fined for “misuse of marked mineral oil”, relating to using agricultural diesel in domestic road vehicles.

Each farmer received a fine of €2,500.
