“We will need a further extension of Article 50, one that is as short as possible and one that ends when we pass a deal,” Theresa May said in a press conference on Tuesday after seven hours of cabinet meetings.

The extension is to ensure that the UK leaves in a “timely and orderly way”.

Delay

“I know there are some people who are so fed up with delay and endless arguments that they would like to leave with no deal next week. I’ve always been clear that we could make a success of no deal in the long term but leaving with a deal is the best solution.”

She said she is offering to sit down with Labour’s Jeremy Corbyn to try break the logjam in Parliament.

“I am offering to sit down with the leader of the opposition,” she said.

Macron

Meanwhile in France, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar gave a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Macron said that France will stand by Ireland in negotiations.

“Please allow me to say again that we will never abandon Ireland or the Irish people no matter what happens because this is the solidarity is the very purpose of the European project,” Macron said
