Claremorris, Co Mayo cattle dealer Finbar Tolan has told the Irish Farmers Journal that the European Court of Human Rights had accepted to hear his claim that Irish courts did not treat him fairly, arising from a long-running dispute with Aurivo Co-op.

In 2015, Mr Tolan lost a High Court case against Aurivo alleging that the co-op’s refusal to deal with him through its marts had destroyed his business. He has since failed to have the case reopened, with the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court all ruling against him in four separate decisions.

In a separate case over livestock debt, Aurivo previously won a court judgement ordering Mr Tolan to pay €154,830.66.
