Farmers could be forced to fill out new paperwork to register their quads and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), if a bill proposed by Fianna Fáil is passed in the Dáil.
The party has proposed creating a national register of quads, ATVs and scramblers in an attempt to address the use of mechanically propelled vehicles in public areas.
The proposed Road Traffic (All Terrain Vehicle and Scrambler Motor-cycle) (Amendment) Bill 2019 would set up a database of all such vehicles, both new and secondhand, with a view to having them registered on the national vehicle driver file.

A spokesperson for Fianna Fáil said the proposed register would be similar to car registration, but without a fee.
Documentation required would include an invoice with the date of purchase, PPSN, vehicle identity documentation and proof of name and address of the owner.
The bill will be voted on after Easter.
