Lamb price standoff between producers and factories
Factories are trying to pull sheep prices back but a high percentage of remaining hoggets remain in the hands of specialist finishers who are slow to accept the lower prices on offer.
Factories still remain keen for hoggets, with demand firm ahead of the Ramadan festival.

There is a standoff developing between factories and producers. Some export-focused plants have reduced hogget quotes to a base of €5.00/kg, with spring lamb pulled 20c/kg to a base of €6.00/kg.
Specialist finishers are rejecting the lower quotes and with demand for Ramadan, they are still securing €5.50/kg to €5.70/kg. Prices at the lower end of the market range from €5.30/kg to €5.40/kg, with spring lambs ranging from €6.20/kg to €6.50/kg.
