A man in his 60s has died following an accident on a farm in Aughnacliffe, Co Longford.

The accident happened around lunchtime on Thursday and gardaí in Granard are investigating. The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the accident involved livestock.

Gardaí were alerted to the incident at around 4.30pm on Thursday and the body was removed to the local hospital where a post-mortem will take place.

Investigation

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified and it will carry out its own investigations, a garda spokesperson told the Irish Farmers Journal.

A garda file will be prepared for the coroner's court.

The latest death brings to 10 the number of farm fatalities on Irish farms to date this year.

It is the second farm fatality in the space of a week. On Thursday of last week, a man in his 50s was killed following a farm accident involving a tractor in the Glenville area of Co Cork.
