Phil Meaney, manager at Glanbia’s Graiguecullen site in Co Carlow, has been appointed as the new president of the Irish Seed Trade Association (ISTA).
ISTA represents multipliers, producers and distributors of certified seed in Ireland.
It aims to ensure the best varieties of seed are made available to Irish farmers through promoting the use of certified seed in tillage, forage and grassland crops.

Meaney is accustomed with certified seed, as the Graiguecullen site covers Glanbia’s production facilities for seed grain, grass seed and food grade oats.
He will serve a two-year term and takes over from Jim Gibbons of Germinal Ireland.
Term priorities
Having worked for Glanbia since 1990, Meaney said his term as ISTA president will focus on representing, informing and lobbying on behalf of members about seed-related issues.
He said he will also promote the use and benefits of certified seed.
Outgoing president Jim Gibbons will serve as outgoing vice-president, along with the new incoming vice-president Brendan Reilly, cereal seed production and sales manager for Drummonds.
