Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae has called for Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Josepha Madigan to resign after her refusal to extend the hedge-cutting period.
Madigan had been given discretionary powers under the Heritage Act 2018 to allow for the cutting of roadside hedges during the month of August on a trial basis in 2019 and 2020.
However, Minister Madigan has opted not to exercise those powers based on a recognition of “increasing threats to biodiversity”.
