Tullow Mart in Co Carlow is gearing up for a busy week. Its general sheep sale on Tuesday also includes a clearance sale of a 140 head Suffolk x Cheviot ewe flock while on Wednesday the Tullow Sheep Breeders Association will hold its premier sale of over 2,000 ewe hoggets and ewe lambs.

Mart manager Eric Driver says the flock clearance is stemming from a change of farm enterprise and offers farmers a unique opportunity to source mature ewes that are suitable for early lambing. “Ewes are already in a system of lambing in February and are in prime condition for anyone who wishes to buy and breed for early lambing. The ewes have been purchased in Tullow sales in recent years and are true to breed type, possessing great length and size.”

Ewes on offer are mainly a mixture of two-, three- and four-year-olds and Eric says they perform well annually and achieve favourable scanning performance. The sale takes place on Tuesday 6 August at 1pm and anyone requiring further information can contact the mart or Eric on 087-776 7402.
