Ag tech companies were out in force at Sunday's Tullamore Show to display their latest ideas to potential investors and customers.

Herdsy was one such innovator with the ambition of taking the guesswork out of beef and sheep production by giving instant live animal data to the farmer.

Herdsy is a tag placed around the neck of the animal which sends data to your phone. The data includes heart rate, temperature, location, movement, muscle mass and various activities such as grazing.

The Irish Farmers Journal spoke with Richard Hobson, CEO of Herdsy: “Beef and sheep farmers have been blatantly ignored by ag tech companies in the past with their main focus being on the dairy industry. Our product is designed to put an end to this by providing live animal progress feedback to the farmer.”

The tag can also be used to give a 95% accurate deadweight prediction to the farmer before the animal is brought to the factory.

“The farmer will have a better idea how the animal will kill out when the tag is used in the run up to slaughter. This will give the farmer more negotiating power and a better idea of what price they should receive for their animal.”

Awards and partnership

The company has recently entered partnership with Samsung to further advance their technology. Herdsy also received the most innovative ag tech programme award in China back in 2019.
