It might seem ironic but deep fried chicken chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is looking at removing chicken from some of its menu staples to offer meat-free options.
The chain has partnered with Beyond Meat to test plant-based alternatives with customers before deciding on rolling them out across all its restaurants.
The company, which will roll out the plant-based nuggets and boneless wings, said customers will find it difficult to tell if it is plant-based.

Beyond Meat began developing its plant-based meat in 2009 and has since introduced several product varieties across the brand’s imitation beef, pork and poultry platforms.
KFC’s plant-based chicken offering is noted by the brand as being the first of its kind.
Beyond Meat has already partnered with other big chain restaurants including Tim Hortons, Subway and Dunkin in response to consumers’ changing diets.
In April, Beyond Meat went public and the shares are up more than 500% since then. They hit a peak in late July but have since lost around a third of their value.
