Thursday

The day will start wet and windy, with strong southerly winds veering northwesterly.

There will be some outbreaks of rain, heavy in places, especially over northern counties.

However the rain should give way to brighter weather with scattered showers for the afternoon, with the stiff winds easing later also. Highs of 16°C to 20°C.

At this stage, Met Éireann has said there are some indications of drier conditions developing later Friday or Saturday as pressure builds from the south.

Farming outlook

Drying conditions will be moderate, but no lengthy dry spells are expected. The best drying will be in the southeast of the country this week.

Spraying will be limited due to the mixed and often windy weather with rain or showers occasionally.

Soil moisture deficits are generally around 20mm to 30mm in Leinster and east Munster, but soils are saturated elsewhere and indeed waterlogged in parts of the west and north.
