Gusts of 100km/h to 120km/h are expected on Thursday, which could see some damage to property as a result of storm Lorenzo.

Met Éireann has issued a status orange wind warning for counties Galway, Mayo, Clare, Kerry and Limerick on Thursday 3 October, with winds that will reach average speeds of 60km/h to 80km/h.

Storm surges will produce coastal flooding and damage. That warning is valid from Thursday 3 October at 6pm to Friday 4 October at 3pm.

Yellow warning

There is also a national status yellow wind warning that will see southeasterly winds that will reach average speeds of 50km/h to 65km/h, with gusts of 90km/h to 100km/h resulting in some disruptive impacts. That warning is valid from 9am to 6pm on Thursday 3 October.

A status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Connacht, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal that could see heavy rainfall resulting in some flooding between 9am on Thursday 3 October and 6am on Friday 4 October.

There is a status yellow wind warning issued for Wexford, Cork, Tipperary and Waterford. Average southwesterly winds of 50km/h to 65km/h are forecast, with gusts of 90km/h to 100km/h that is valid from 6pm on Thursday 3 October until 6am on Friday 4 October.

Farm safety

  • Turn off all electrical power and water in sheds (not fences).
  • Store light items indoors and tidy the farmyard.
  • Move machinery into sheltered areas.
  • Make arrangements for an alternative power generator that may be needed for milking or water pumping.
