Emerald Isle Beef Producers has been given the green light by the Department of Agriculture.

It marks the second producer organisation (PO) started by Beef Plan Movement members and given Department approval.

It is understood that Beef Plan co-chair Eamon Corley is spearheading Emerald Isle Beef Producers, although the official directors are listed as Gill Hanlon and Hilary O'Brien and the company address is in Meath.

Entry fee

The PO will have an entry fee of €100/head – a once-off fee, Eamon Corley previously told the Irish Farmers Journal, adding that there will also be a contribution per head of cattle.

“We will have to employ people, to run it right will have to employ two people. Without spending money, we’re not going to do it right,” he said.

The PO will be required to submit annual reports and quarterly updates in accordance with Department regulations.
