Irish country singer Niamh Lynn has gone all the way back to Hank Williams for her new release. Lovesick Blues charted for Hank William back in 1949. Niamh’s enthusiasm for the old classic country songs is delivering a brand-new audience for the Cavan-based but Dublin-born and raised singer.

Previous releases such as Sing Me an Old Fashioned Song have seen her secure a major following in Europe and she has already been booked for festivals in Denmark, France and Germany in 2020.

It is fascinating the amount of interest there is in those countries and how they are so passionate about country music

“A lot of people here are not aware of just how popular old classic country is in many parts of Europe. I know from the volume of hits on YouTube that my songs have special appeal in Germany and I hope to focus a lot of attention on that country as well as Denmark where they have also gotten a lot of exposure,” says Niamh.

“It is fascinating the amount of interest there is in those countries and how they are so passionate about country music. When they come out to festivals, they dress in style. Country music is a way of life for so many of them.”

My style of country is more a Nashville sound

Niamh, who was a nominee for the RTÉ Newcomer of the Year at the Irish Country Music Awards in 2016, is delighted to have chosen this road in country music.

“My style of country is more a Nashville sound and I love to sing the old standards from the likes of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette and Billy Jo Spears. I find these resonate in a very special way with people. They are the kind of songs that allow you to put real feeling into them.”

Niamh, along with Glór Tíre winner John Rafferty from Belfast, is special guest on the Johnny Brady in Concert show in The Rhu Glenn Country Club in south Kilkenny (just two miles from Waterford city) on Thursday 7 November. She is also working on a new album for release in early 2020 which will also feature two of her own compositions.

Now under new management, she also hosts her own show, Niamh Lynn’s Music Mix which airs every Wednesday at 7pm on Sky 376 Spotlight channel. For further details contact Seamus on 086-384 9430 or check out Niamh Lynn Country Music page on Facebook.
