Gardaí are investigating a spate of quad bike thefts that occured in Co Leitrim last month.

Three quads were stolen from three separate yards within days of each other.

The first was taken from a farmyard in the Cashel area of Mohill, on Wednesday, 11 September.

Private premises

The second was taken from a private premises in the Drumcoura area of Ballinamore on Tuesday 17 September and a third was taken from a farmyard in the Tully area of Carrigallen on Wednesday 18 September.

All thefts were carried out in the early hours of the morning.

So far, no arrests have been made.

Gardaí are also investigating the theft of a four-year-old Honda 420 quad bike that was taken from a yard in Mass Hill, Tubbercurry, Co Sligo, on Friday 25 October at approximately 1.30am.

Leitrim county chair of the IFA Desmond McHugh warned farmers to be vigilant.

“I encourage all farmers to mark their property and do not confront anybody if you witness a theft, report it to the Gardaí immediately,” he said.

McHugh also said that he would like to see a text alert system put in place so that “all individuals in rural areas can be connected, all deterrents will help.”
