There will soon be new, higher standards for livestock fencing materials including timber posts, wire, strainers, staples and other ancillaries.
The National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) has published a draft standard inviting comments from all interested parties by 6 December. Submissions will be considered by the NSAI’s Timber Standards Consultative Committee. The NSAI says the main differences between the new standards are:
Requirements for timber preservation are updated.
Machined posts now include profiled type.
Additional sizes are included for rectangular sawn posts.
Standard references for ancillaries are updated.
Coating requirements for wire products are updated.
Moisture measurement methods are updated.
Requirements for presentation of timber prior to preservative treatment are introduced.
Marking requirements for timber bales are updated.
Fencing arrangements for various livestock are updated.
