Camera at the Mart attended the weekly sale of cattle at Saintfield Mart on Wednesday last, where there was another seasonal entry of animals offered for sale.
With cattle numbers holding steady week on week, it is helping to keep a firm floor in the live trade, with buyers competing strongly across all cattle types.

This Angus heifer, weighing 480kg and born November 2018, sold for £800.
Forward cattle suited to a short intensive finishing period were met with most demand, although there were signs of more buyers looking for good-quality lightweight stores suited to early grazing over the coming weeks.

This Belgian Blue heifer, weighing 440kg and born October 2018, sold for £900.
Mart manager Geoffrey Murphy commented on the sale, saying that prices are holding firm since the start of the year, with plenty of repeat buyers on hand for good-quality cattle.
Topping the trade for bullocks was a 630kg Angus-bred animal, which saw the hammer fall at £1,160.
Similar types were a sharp trade, with specialist finishers and cattle agents in direct competition for a limited entry of animals.

This Angus bullock, weighing 430kg and born April 2019, sold for £820.
A solid entry of strong weanlings and lighter yearling stores saw prices peak at £875 for a 390kg Limousin bull.
Traditional breeds saw suckler-bred Angus weanlings making £760 for a 330kg animal, while a 430kg Angus bullock made £820.
A sharp heifer trade saw a 480kg Belgian Blue sell for £945, followed by another stand-out Blue animal weighing 430kg making £870.
Other Blue heifers at similar weights of 430kg to 440kg were an easy sell, with prices typically ranging from £800 to £855.

Fat cows sold to a peak of £1,274 for a 700kg Belgian Blue-bred animal.
