Monday is forecast to be a cold, bright, blustery day with sunny spells and scattered heavy showers.

There will be a risk of hail and thunder, which will be most likely to occur in the western half of the country. Some of the showers will turn wintry over high ground there.

Highest temperatures will range from 5°C to 8°C, with an added wind chill factor in fresh and gusty westerly winds, which will be strongest on coasts.

Met Éireann said Monday night will be cold with clear spells and scattered wintry showers, these most frequent over the western half of the country. Lowest temperatures will range from 0°C to 4°C, with moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Tuesday

Tuesday will continue cold, bright and breezy with sunshine and scattered wintry showers. Highest temperatures will range from 5°C to 9°C with fresh, gusty westerly winds. Met Éireann said Tuesday night will be cold with frost in places. Rain will develop in the west overnight.

Lowest temperatures will range from 0°C to 4°C.

Wednesday

Rain is forecast to spread eastwards across the country and will continue through the day and on Wednesday night, eventually clearing overnight with showers following.

It will be a milder day, with highest temperatures of 8°C to 10°C and fresh southerly winds.

Thursday

Thursday will be cold and bright with sunny spells. There will be occasional showers of rain or hail, with sleet or snow possible on high ground. Highest temperatures will range from 4°C to 8°C.

Friday

Met Éireann said rain will spread eastwards across the country on Friday, with fresh to strong southwest winds. Highest temperatures will range from 9°C to 11°C.

The weather will continue unsettled next weekend, with spells of rain or showers.
