I see the PSNI in Armagh has been keeping a keen eye on the weather forecast, with some timely advice for both farmers and other road users.
Following several weeks of biblical rain, farmers may have an opportunity to get “the old smell stuff” out, as the PSNI puts it.
With that in mind, it had a couple of pieces of advice for farmers taking to the roads with slurry tankers:
If there is a queue behind the tractor, pull in.
When coming out of a field, don't bring half of it out too. The police will be looking to see if the road is left in a mess.
Make sure all lights, indicators and beacons are working, and turn the ploughing light off when on the road.
Make sure the driver’s licence covers them to drive that vehicle.
Have the proper insurance, etc, in place.
Motorists
It wasn’t just farmers the PSNI had some advice for, other road users were reminded of their obligations:
Have patience, tractors are slower than cars, they are also longer than your average vehicle for overtaking.
