Prices for silage warp are varying by up to €10 per roll, according to a price survey carried out by the IFA.
The average cost of silage wrap in the survey was €63 per roll. Farmers in Co Longford reported that they were paying the highest price at €70 while those in Cork and Westmeath were paying just under €59.
The survey took place at the beginning of April and all prices exclude VAT and recycling levies.
IFA environment and rural affairs chair Paul O’Brien encouraged farmers to shop around and push for the best price when buying farm inputs.

“Commodity prices continue to come under pressure. Therefore, it’s important that all farmers ensure they get value when buying farm inputs,” O’Brien said.
“The results of this survey should be used by all farmers to negotiate competitive prices for their bale wrap this year. Keener pay-on-the-day terms should also be provided by suppliers.”
