Fast food chain McDonald is set to open six restaurants on a drive-thru only basis from Wednesday 20 May.
The news will be welcomed by many farmers and the meat industry which experienced a slump in sales due to widespread restaurant closures across Ireland and Europe caused by COVID-19.
McDonald's said it has installed Perspex screens, temperature testing and floor markings to adhere to social distancing protocols and said that spending at open drive thrus is capped at €30/car. Some 15 stores have already reopened in the UK.

“McDonald’s and its franchisees are working closely with local authorities and An Garda Síochána, and may determine that it is necessary to close Drive Thru lanes, if queues cause disruption at busier sites,” a company statement announced.
