Total tractor registrations in the UK could fall below 10,000 for the first time since 1998, with sales for the year to date 22% lower than this time in 2019, records from the Agricultural Engineers Association has shown.

In October 2020, just 671 tractors were sold, 100 lower than in October 2019, representing a decline of 13%.

Although this was a smaller fall than those recorded between April and July, it suggests the market remains subdued, with the uncertain climate perhaps affecting farmers' willingness to invest.

To date, 8,541 tractors have been sold in the UK during 2020, down 21.6%.

Northern Ireland

Sales of new tractors in Northern Ireland for the first six months of 2020 were down 37.5% on 2019.

The total number of agricultural tractors registered for road use was 218, down 131 on 2019. The Northern Ireland market accounted for 4.2% of the total UK sales.
