This year marked the 35th edition of the black & white sale in Carlisle, which took place earlier this month.

With the special anniversary came a top of 20,000gns, with the sale average price hitting just shy of £5,000.

Leading the way in the prices was Auchensala Hips Don’t Lie from Ali Cook.

Sired by Sidekick, she goes back to KHW Regiment Apple Red, which was also behind the sale topper at the 2020 sale.

Out of Miss Apple Snapple, the sale topper was secured by the Forsyth family from Newton Stewart.

Powerful cow

Apple Snapple is also the dam behind Erbacres Snapple Shakira, which is the current World Dairy Expo and Canadian national champion.

This powerful cow had two granddaughters in the sale which sold for 11,000gns and 6,000gns. These two lots were consigned by Wiltor Holsteins and were both sired by Comestar Lautrust.

The higher of these lots was secured by the Matfield herd in Northern Ireland, while Matt Norman in Devon took home the lower-priced Snapple.

Second-top price

Tom Lomas secured the second-top price of the day at 14,000gns for TLC Arrow Bitcoin.

This Arrow-sired heifer is a granddaughter of the 2017 World Dairy Expo champion Rosiers Blexy Goldwyn. Securing Bitcoin was Willsbro Holstein herd in Cornwall.

Southern Irish exhibitors Tim and Lauren Fitzmaurice of the Leagh herd in Kerry also made the headlines at the sale. Top of their offering was Leagh Doorman Jellybean ET, which hit the market at 8,500gns.

This September 2021-born heifer is sired by the famous Val-Bison Doorman, with her dam the three-time Canadian champion and EX96-classified cow Knonaudale Jasmine.

Full sister to this heifer Jones Awesome Jelly sold for 13,500gns at the Knowlesmer sale in 2020, with another full sister Kingsway Doorman Jackpot selling for $17,000 at the Kingswat Tag sale in 2021.

Second lot

The second lot from Leagh achieved a price of 5,200gns. This was paid for the first-choice heifer from four female pregnancies by Stantons Chief.

Dam of these pregnancies is the €10,800 Leagh Doorman Katrysha, which is a maternal sister to MS Milksource RL Krystal, which was grand champion at Wisconsin summer show in 2020.

Finally, Leagh Denver Wears Prada, an ET heifer calf born in February, sold for 3,000gns. This heifer is sired by Brenland Denver, with her dam the EX90-classified Leagh Solomon Pippa.

This year’s sale also saw the presentation of a silver buckle marketing award, which Lauren Fitzmaurice secured for her promotion of Leagh Denver Wears Prada ET.

Last of the top prices was another 8,500gns call, paid for Luck-E Altitude Red. This heifer was consigned by Luck-E Holstein from Illinois in the USA.

The first daughter of Luck-E Advent Asia to sell in the UK, she is a maternal sister to the popular sire Luck-E Awesome Red.
