Derry Girls, All 4
The vast majority of people will have heard of Derry Girls at this stage. The Lisa McGee written show is a huge hit. The four episodes of the third and final series aired so far are available to stream on All 4, Channel 4’s player. If you haven’t gotten stuck into them yet, they won’t disappoint. Also, if you are yet to experience the magic that is Derry Girls, all three series are available on All 4. Get watching.
Normal People, RTÉ Player
Now, I know Normal People certainly isn’t a new phenomenon. It’s a well-established one. However, next week the TV adaption of another Sally Rooney novel comes out, Conversations With Friends, which airs Wednesday 18 May on RTÉ One. While you’re waiting it might be worth getting excited for it by taking a look at Normal People. After all, it’s the same writer and same director. Also, will the trials and tribulations of Connell and Marianne ever get old?
Our Father, Netflix
If there’s a “one everyone’s talking about” on Netflix, then at the moment it’s Our Father, a true crime documentary. If you’re into the true crime genre in general, then this is definitely one to watch for you. After a woman’s at home DNA test reveals multiple half-siblings, she discovers a shocking scheme. In the 1970s and 80s a fertility doctor in America inseminated dozens of patients unknowingly with his own sperm.
Walk the Line, Amazon Prime
If you have Amazon Prime then you’re sure to know that there’s a great offering of movies up there, from Spencer to many James Bond movies and more. But one long-time favourite film it has above its competitors is Walk the Line. The story of Johnny Cash and June Carter (played by Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon) made waves in 2005 when it was released. Today, it’s still as good as ever.
