Do you know what temperature Met Éireann have given for the weekend?

Apparently, 20C in parts of the country, which is not too shabby, all things considered.

Now we all know that good weather has to be taken advantage of on our island, so here are some walks to get you out and about this weekend.

Pollardstown Fen, Co Kildare

In terms of walking, Pollardstown Fen is quite short and suitable for those just looking to get out for a stroll.

It’s made up of boardwalk over peatland. What it lacks in length though it makes up for in rare vegetation and rare invertebrates.

Located 3km outside Newbridge, Co Kildare, Pollardstown Fen is a national nature reserve, which is dominated by Black Bog rush and saw sedge, a vegetation type almost unique to Ireland.

If you put ‘Pollardstown Fen’ into Google Maps, it will bring you to the car park, where the path begins.

Ardmore Cliff Walk, Co Waterford

Ardmore in Co Waterford is well-known for its beautiful beach. However, its 4km cliff walk is equally as stunning.

To start, head up past the Cliff House Hotel to the trail. This route around the cliff-top takes in plenty of heritage, history and sights.

St Declan’s Well, the coastguard station, a shipwreck, cathedral and round tower are all visible from the path.

Of course, you will get breath-taking sea views as well. That’s a given.

Wood Loop, Co Clare

If you’re looking for a trail to give you a taste of what the Burren is all about, then the Wood Loop in Ballyvaughan is a great option.

It’s 8km long and will take you approximately two hours to complete.

Starting in the town of Ballyvaughan, follow the purple arrows, it passes close by the Aillwee Caves and it also takes in fabulous views of Galway Bay.

The trail is made up of minor roadways, surfaced and sandy roads, green lanes, woodland and cross-country terrain.
