The global life sciences company, Thermo Fisher Scientific, has launched its Community Partnership Grant worth €50,000.
Now in its fourth year, applications are open until 30 October with recipients to be announced before the end of the year.
Background
Driven by the employee-led Community Action Council, the Community Partnership Grant is part of Thermo Fisher’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which supports local communities directly through volunteer and philanthropic opportunities.
Starting in 2020, It was originally set up to mark a double anniversary – Thermo Fisher Scientific’s first anniversary since acquiring the
Currabinny facility in 2019 and the site’s 45-year scientific legacy.
Community Impact
Since it was launched, over 125 local community groups and charities have benefitted from the Community Partnership Grant.
Among the many deserving projects include The Rainbow Club; Cork Centre for Autism; St Mary’s Special School; Cork Stroke Support; Irish Community Air Ambulance; Down Syndrome Centre Cork; and Ringaskiddy Active Retired.
Over the past three years, the grant has supported a wide range of individuals and groups who are working to improve the local community.
“We have been able to see first-hand the impact this grant has made. For example, Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery used the funding towards the purchase of sonar equipment for their operations, while Holy Well Senior Academy developed a Sensory Garden for their students,”says Caroline Barry, operational excellence lead with Thermo Fisher.
Applications
The grant is open to charities and community groups who operate in and around the manufacturing site in Currabinny and who are involved in making the local community healthier, cleaner and safer.
Applicants will be reviewed by the grant’s judging panel, with the announcement of awardees in November.
