Farming-mad children will be happy watching Friday’s Late Late Toy Show, according to presenter Ryan Tubridy.

“Every year we find oursevelves doing farming stuff. This year it’s huge, so much so that instead of one child telling us stuff, we have two,” said Ryan.

“They are so smart and so representative of the country and mad for farming. Some guys want an X Box – these guys want a fake field and a fake cow and a tractor. And that’s their Christmas.”

We can also look forward to Ryan donning an fine array of dazzling jumpers, made by imaginative listeners.

“Once (the jumper) goes on, it kick- starts Christmas,” he said. “For this week, my life becomes very peculiar, particularly bizarre, but actually quite lovely.”

This year’s show is inspired by Beauty and the Beast, with a cast of 80 children performing the opening act. A total of 285 children are due to take part this year, and over 200 toys will feature. It took seven weeks and 300 people to construct the set. All toys will be donated to charity.

Last year’s show was the most-watched programmes of the century so far, with a massive 1.59 million viewers.

The Late Late Toy Show airs on RTÉ One at 9.30pm
