As the sun shines on the Ploughing, the Irish Skin Foundation is present reminding farmers, outdoor workers and anyone with fair complexion of the dangers of long-term sun exposure. “If you spend a lot of time in the sun you have an increased risk of developing actinic keratoses and skin cancer," says Dr Patrick Ormond, consultant dermatologist at St James Hospital.

Meanwhile, a challenge has begun to pour the most cups of tea in one hour by 12 people. The aim is to pour 1608 cups of tea to beat the current Guinness world record.

Live demonstrations begin on the Irish Farmers Journal stand. From now until late afternoon, there is always something to see with livestock demos at 10am, 12pm and 2pm, and live cooking by Nevin Maguire at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

The National Ploughing Championships are now open to the public. Tickets are sold at the site's entrances and priced at €20 per adult and €15 for students and OAPs. Parking is free.
