In-spec cattle sold well, with Angus and Hereford bullocks that offered scope to be killed off at grass and still underage in 2017 going for over €1.88/kg. Non-quality assured and overage stock with a lot of movements were a tougher sell.

Overall, Friesian bullocks sold from €280 to €400 with their weight. There was a higher proportion of younger continentals than usual for Bandon. Beef-cross bullocks sold from €350 to €550 with their weight. Sample prices for 2015-born bullocks include:

  • Three Angus, June, 430kg – €860, €2/kg.
  • Five Limousin, June, 396kg – €770, €1.94/kg.
  • Three Simmental, March, 490kg – €1,020, €1.88/kg.
  • Six Angus, February, 565kg – €1,040, €1.84/kg.
  • Two Friesian, February, 455kg – €700, €1.54/kg.
  • Four Friesian, February, 496kg – €795, €1.60/kg.
  • One Limousin, May, 490kg – €1,045, €2.13/kg.
  • Four Belgian Blue, April, 436kg – €870, €2/kg.
  • One Hereford, March, 405kg – €800, €1.98/kg.

    • Heifers

    Heifer trade remained relatively unchanged and made from €280 up to €500 over the €/kg. Sample prices include:

  • Two Simmental, 537kg – €1,040, €1.94/kg.
  • Two Charolais, 340kg – €760, €2.24/kg.
  • One Limousin, 465kg – €820, €1.76/kg.
  • One Limousin, 420kg – €790, €1.88/kg.

    • Calves

    Calf numbers were back on last week’s levels, with 190 calves on offer this week. Friesian bull calves made from €70 to €130, Hereford and Angus bulls made from €200 to €350 for younger calves, with runners selling from €380 up to €625.

    Angus and Hereford heifer calves sold from €180 to €300, with weanlings making from €350 up to €450. Continental bull calves sold from €220 up to €380, with runners making up to €625.

    Cows

    Cows continue to come out, with a large selection of parlour cows on offer on Monday. Dry cows made from €140 under to €599 over the €/kg and younger cows sold well. Sample prices include:

  • One Hereford, 855kg – €1,300, €1.52/kg.
  • One Friesian, 610kg – €810, €1.33/kg.
  • One Friesian, 675kg – €835, €1.24/kg.
  • One Friesian, 755kg – €1,080, €1.43/kg.
  • One Simmental, 840kg – €1,340, €1.60.
