This week in the machinery section we look at the highlights from the recent FTMTA Farm Machinery Show. Sentiment from Ireland’s biggest machinery show was essentially positive. Deals on many of the stands for balers and mowers were completed and even negotiated from cold with new buyers. Many of the visitors to the show had specific requirements and had their homework completed on the machines they wanted to see according to many of the exhibitors.
One of the trends observed this year was the adoption of film-on-film technology on balers.
With a precision agriculture focus at the show and on the Irish Farmers Journal stand, we explore what size of a farm can make this technology pay with Dermot Forristal from Teagasc Oakpark. His research seems to match the investment amount to the size of the farm. Basic GPS guidance with TAMS is looking like a winner for a lot of farms.
