Hedgecutter’s new telescopic option

The new machine combines telescopic and variable forward reach features and is a development from the variable forward reach telescopic (VFRT) machines in the Shelbourne Reynolds range, first introduced in 2007.

This version uses a new design pivot between the first and second arms to allow the flail head to be placed where required. This gives better operator comfort and position for cutting accuracy. The new telescopic second arm offers the advantages of both types of reach in one machine, the company has claimed.

The company claims that the new VFRT design enables operators to place the cutting head in positions not previously possible with machines offering only telescopic or variable forward reach capabilities.

VFRT will initially be available on one machine, the HD775 VFRT (max total reach 7.5m; max forward reach 2.5m). It complements the HD762VFR (max total reach 6.2m; max forward reach 1.5m), and HD767VFR (max total reach 6.7m; max forward reach 1.7m).

As well as enabling the cutting head to be positioned alongside the tractor, without the need for a cranked arm design, VFRT also allows the second arm to reach behind the machine.

This aims to allow the operator to side up a hedge or trim a verge with the head behind the tractor’s rear wheel. The head can be placed behind the rear wheel between 1.0m and 1.6m, depending upon the position of the telescopic arm.

Shelbourne Reynolds said that the new machine was developed in response to feedback from operators and owners updating mid-mount machines.

They wanted the reach of telescopic arms without a return to the inconvenience of looking over their shoulders.

Shelbourne Reynolds equipment is distributed in Northern Ireland by Alan Dunlop Agricultural Machinery in Killinchy, Co Down.

The company has no distributor south of the border. At the time of going to press, Shelbourne Reynolds has not agreed a price for the new telescopic machine.
