Mighty Nice continues to clock up awards for his Cavan breeder William Kells as the Olympic bronze medallist horse has now been voted the United States Equestrian Federation’s International Horse of the Year.

The awards took place last weekend in Florida where Philip Dutton, whose daughter Lee Lee is recovering in hospital after a head injury sustained in a schooling accident before Christmas, was also announced as USEF’s international rider award winner.

The USEF award is the latest gained by the Ard Ohio gelding as the 13-year-old was also the United States Eventing Association’s Horse of the Year.

He also earned his Cavan farmer breeder the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses 2016 Event Horse Award, presented at Geneva International, plus two Horse Sport Ireland breeder awards in November.

And all from an impulse buy as Kells bought Mighty Nice’s dam Sarazen as a filly foal at a horse sale in the local mart.
