A man was killed in a farm accident last Friday evening in Co. Tyrone after being gored by a bull.

Seamus Kelly, who was in his late 60s, died after being hit by the bull while working alone in one of his fields beside Altmore church close to Pomeroy. He was laid to rest Monday following a requiem mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, in Altmore.

Mr Kelly was found by his son and pronounced dead at the scene around 6.30pm after suffering severe wounds to his chest.

The beef farmer had worked on his family farm at Largylea all his life. He is survived by his wife Rosemary, and his two sons, Cathal and Declan.

Councillor Mickey Gillespie said: “Seamus was a very well respected man in the local community; from a well respected family.

“He was a neighbour and close friend, he would have helped anyone,” he added.

Describing him as a quiet and laid back character at his Requiem Mass at Church of the Immaculate Conception in Altmore on Monday, Parish Priest, Father David Moore said: “Seamus loved his animals, the farm and the land. That was really how he lived and sadly died.”

The Health and Safety Authority in Northern Ireland is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
