The trade remains steady in most areas as numbers of store cattle and weanlings decrease. In dairy areas, the number of cull cows coming straight from the parlour are increasing.

Store bullocks from 500kg to 600kg are currently selling mainly from €2.00/kg to €2.20/kg for average quality types with plainer lots and fleshed Friesians making from €1.60/kg to €1.80/kg.

Light store cattle remain a firm trade and area selling from €2.30/kg to €2.50/kg or €1080 on average.

Heifers

The heifer trade remains strong backed by steady farmer demand. Prices are on par with the same time last year.

Store heifers from 500kg to 600kg are selling from €2.05/kg to €2.25/kg with U grades making over €2.45/kg. Light store heifers from 400kg to 500kg are a steady trade. Prices are ranging mainly from €2.25/kg to €2.30/kg with U grade heifers making from €2.40/kg to €2.60/kg.

Weanlings

The weanling trade is strong in many areas, however where quality is poor, prices are more variable. The average 350kg weanling bull continues to sell from €300 to €500 over with U grades making upwards of €600 over. Lighter types from 200kg to 300kg have seen prices steady again and are selling from €2.10/kg to €2.30/kg. However, where lesser quality types are coming to the fore, prices are more variable. The average 300kg to 400kg heifer is making €2.00/kg to €2.20/kg with the top third continuing to sell from €2.30/kg to €2.50/kg.
