Mc&S Agri Sales supports harvest working day

FTMTA member, Mc&S Agri Sales Ltd is partnering with De Courcey Classic and Vintage Club for this year’s harvest working day at Barrell’s Cross near Kinsale, Co Cork, on Monday 4 August.

Mc&S Agri Sales is a New Holland dealer, based in Ballincollig, Co Cork, and has recently opened a new premises in Bandon. In Ireland, New Holland is celebrating 50 years of production at its Basildon tractor plant by sponsoring the De Courcey harvest working day. The event will showcase modern and classic combine harvesters, starting with the MZ89 model through to the Clayes 103, the Clayson 135, Sperry/ New Holland models of the 1960s and 70s and the current range. All of these machines will be seen operating in the harvesting area.

As well as combines, a full range of tractors from the Ford plant in Cork, Fordsons from Dagenhan, the 1000 series, the silver jubilee 7810s and this year’s golden jubilee T6 and T7 models, manufactured in Basildon, will all be on show.

In addition, a special attraction will celebrate the evolution of ploughing from the horsedrawn era through each decade to the latest machines. Each tractor will have a plough appropriate to the era from Ferguson System ploughs to trailed ploughs up to modern reversible equipment.

Other attractions will include horsedrawn mowing machines, reaper and binder, steam threshing, hand milling of corn, as well as static displays of vintage cars, tractors, motorbikes and engines.

FTMTA AGM

At the recent FTMTA AGM, the association’s president Conor Breen highlighted that while new tractor sales for the year seem likely to exceed 1,900 units for the first time since 2008, this will still be a challenging market size for the machinery industry and FTMTA member firms.

The FTMTA president identified the grass-based sector as key to an improvement in the overall machinery business during the year “with farmers and contractors taking full advantage of the excellent silage and hay-making conditions during the summer so far”.

Further details of the FTMTA president’s address at the AGM will be included in next week’s column.
