The Cork men abandoned farms at home for the craic in France, but decided to give a nod to their background with their ‘should be at silage’ flag.

Now the entire parish knows what the lads are up to after their flag went viral on the Irish Farmers Journal Facebook page.

We’re not the only farmers here and the flag is getting a great reaction

According to Shane O’Leary, who runs a dairy farm in Ballinhassig with his father and brother, the flag is getting a few thumbs up from their country cousins in France. He said the idea for the flag came from Darren Delea, another member of the group.

“We’re not the only farmers here and the flag is getting a great reaction,” he said. “We didn’t expect it would go this far on social media though. We couldn’t believe it.”

However, Shane, who was pleased to hear about the rain back home, admitted that the flag wasn’t entirely accurate and indeed the first cut of silage was done before they headed over. They plan to travel home next Sunday after the match against Belgium on Saturday.

After last night’s draw against Sweden, what does Shane think about Ireland’s chances?

“We’re optimistic,” he said. “Sure you may as well be.”

We wonder what’s next – ‘Euro 2016: it beats spreading slurry’?
