The prestigious Great Northern Hotel at the Donegal seaside town of Bundoran will host two of the biggest country music nights of the year on Friday and Saturday, 6 and 7 November.

The Michael Commins Music Weekend will see one of the special nights of country nostalgia in Ireland as many of the great legends of the scene will perform in concert at the Saturday night show. This is being billed as 500 Years of Country Music, as the combined services of the acts on stage will even surpass 500 years.

There is massive interest in this gala night, which features Brian Coll, Gene Stuart, Phil Begley, Ray Lynam, Dermot Hegarty, John Glenn, Pat Ely, Gloria, Billy McFarland, Muriel Day, Art Supple, Brendan Quinn and Sam O’Doherty all in the one show.

We are also very confident of having one or two special legends of country music join us as guests on the night as well.

So many of these people have blazed a trail across the country music landscape, laying solid foundations for others to build on in the years since then, right down to the present day. This will be a magical night in Bundoran and one of the biggest trips down memory lane in the long history of country music in Ireland.

Tyrone legend Brian Coll is thrilled to be part of this very special night: “All of these singers are of my generation and they have given some tremendous service to country music. I love the old-style country music and I am delighted to see that the shows on both nights reflect the kind of country music that we in Ireland have always held dear.

“These will be truly special nights in Bundoran. All of the singers of our time were blessed to be of that generation and it has been a privilege to sing country, the real country music we all grew up with. The oldest hits are still the greatest,” says the acclaimed Omagh singer.

The weekend gets underway with a superb concert show on Friday night, when a host of artists will delight country-loving fans. On the bill are John Hogan, Dermot Hegarty, Matt Keane, Pat McKenna, Brendan Quinn, Tony Kerr, Hugo Duncan, Jordan Mogey, PJ Murrihy, Jacqui Sharkey, Deirdre Bonner, Kieran Lundy, Joe Boyle and other guests.

A brilliant show awaits patrons at this concert, which features many of the established favourites as well as some wonderful new and emerging talents, such as Jordan Mogey from Antrim and Joe Boyle from Donegal. Matt Keane, a special favourite at the Galway shows, and a brother of Sean and Dolores, will make his Bundoran debut on the night.

The weekend, because of the quality and variety of acts taking part, is creating massive interest, with many people already booked to travel from the UK and America as well as from all over Ireland.

There will also be the regular sessions in the bar before and after both concerts on Friday and Saturday, and these are hugely popular with the patrons. The weekend will conclude on Sunday with dancing at the Hollyrood Hotel from 2pm until midnight.
