The cow that was found on an island in Co Meath last week has been safely returned to the mainland with her calf, thanks to Meath River Rescue.

Sean Kelleher's cow, Rambling Rose, went missing for two months and was feared drowned, until she was discovered on an island in the lough beside his land along with her calf, Sunday. Meath River Rescue were called in on Saturday morning to help take the pair from the island and transport them back safely to land.

Chairman for Meath River Rescue, Christopher Rennicks told the Irish Farmers Journal that after consulting with local man Kevin Carolan, they decided to take the longest distance from the island to the mainland, over the deepest part to reduce any pressure on the animals. The pair were caught and tied up and did not need to be sedated for their short journey.

Sean's land was a little too soft for landing on, and so they were taken in the boats to a nearby neighbour's farm where they were brought on land.

According to Christopher, everything ran smoothly and a crowd of around 300 people, including the RTE News crew, turned out to see the pair's arrival.
