The tractor run is being held in memory of Martin Cadden (22) from Mullahoran, Co Cavan, who was killed in a car crash in New Zealand earlier this year.

Martin, who had a passion for farming, animals and machinery, was working on a dairy operation in New Zealand with over 9,000 cows at the time of the accident. The Cadden family believes the tractor run will be a fitting tribute to his life.

"Martin was a true farmer," said his sister, Mary. "The Kevin Bell trust brought him home and we are hoping to raise enough money to help more families."

The charity was established in 2013 by Colin and Eithne Bell from Newry, shortly after their son died in a hit-and-run in New York last June. The trust offers financial assistance to anyone from Ireland who need to bring the body of a family member home, if they have passed away in sudden circumstances.

The Bell family is attending the run, which will start from Mullahoran Part at 1.30pm this Saturday. The tractors will return at around 4.30pm. Around 1,000 people are expected to attend the event.

"People have been so supportive, especially those from the surrounding counties Cavan, Leitrim, Longford and Monaghan" said Mary.
