In order to alert the public to the storm, Met Éireann has issued a yellow weather advisory for the whole of Ireland.

It says Imogen will take the form of an Atlantic depression that will track eastwards, bringing extreme waves and storm force winds to southwest and southern coasts of Ireland on Sunday night and Monday morning.

A status orange wind warning is therefore in place for coastal counties Cork and Kerry, while a status yellow wind warning is in place for Clare, Limerick and Waterford.

Both warnings are valid until noon on Monday 8 February.

In Cork and Kerry westerly winds will reach mean speeds of 65 to 75 km/h, with gusts of 100 to 120 km/h. The strongest winds will be along the coast.

Wind speeds will be around 10 km/h lower in Clare, Limerick and Waterford, with westerly winds reaching mean speeds of 55 to 65 km/h and gusts of 90 to 100 km/h possible, again strongest along the coast.

Imogen is the third storm of 2016. It was preceded by Storm Henry at the begining of February and Storm Gertrude in late January.
