In celebration of the National Dairy Council (NDC) National Dairy Week, Macra na Feirme took over the green at the UCD Student Centre to host its second annual Dairyfest event on 22 April.

Thousands of students had the chance to chat to members of the NDC nutrition team and to young dairy farmers, as well as receiving free dairy products, thanks to Glanbia and Killowen. The fine weather proved a fantastic backdrop for UCD Macra’s welly-throwing challenge where students battled for the longest throw distance.

The event also saw students down a pint of milk for the Macra milk challenge. Not only were they increasing their calcium intake, but Andrew Condron from Offaly walked away with a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab for downing the pint the fastest. He did it in 4.25 seconds, beating 11 other students who took part.

Excellence

An initiative of the NDC, National Dairy Week (18 to 25 April) creates an opportunity to communicate the excellence of pasture-based dairy farming and produce – from farm to fridge. It also highlights the quality, versatility and nutritious benefits of dairy as part of a healthy, balanced diet.
