Sale topper Kilvilcorris Joe, bred and exhibited by Matt and PJ Ryan from Drom, Borrisoleigh, Thurles, Co Tipperary, stole the show at the Charolais sale in Tullamore, selling for the highest price of €6,000. Sired by the noted AI bull Prime Roberto, this bull sold with a five-star terminal index of €122.

The Ryans had a successful day selling all their five entries, the first being Kilvilcorris Jace, again by Prime Roberto, for €3,550. Next up was Kilvilcorris Lancelot 2 by CF 52 at €3,050. Kilvilcorris Jackson by Thrunton Voldermont then followed at €2,400, and finally the 13-month-old Kilvilcorris Lewis by CF 52 sold for €3,700.

Top prize for Terryville Leo

The pre-sale show was hotly contested by eight first prize winners, with Terryville Leo coming out on top under Judge Martin Ryan from the well-known Goldstar herd in Thurles, Co Tipperary. Leo is a 15-month-old son of the English bred AI sire Thrunton Bonjovi. Exhibited by Patsy Lynch from Moville, Lifford, Co Donegal, he sold with a five-star terminal index of €134, a five-star replacement index of €40 and was knocked down at €4,500.

Scooping the reserve championship was Clewbay 12 Julius Caesar for Charles Hughes from Westport, Co Mayo. This 18-month-old son of the UK AI sire Elgin Davinci came under the hammer at €4,000.

James Brady from Dring, Co Longford then sold his 18-month-old bull Purth Jagger for €4,700. A son of the popular AI sire Pirate, this bull boasted a five-star terminal index of €139, a five-star replacement index of €47 and a calving figure of just 6.8%.

Then at €4,400 was Riversdale Landmark, exhibited by Kevin Maguire from Dunderry, Navan, Co Meath. A son of Indurain, this bull sold with a five-star terminal index of €135. Mattie Kelly from Newbridge, Ballinasloe, Co Galway was next up selling his 14-month-old Cloughbrack Lenny for €4,050. This young son of Goldstar Echo sold with a five-star terminal index of €131.

Kerry breeder Kieran Harty from Ballyheigue had a successful day out selling Atlantic HHK Jimmy for €4,050. This son of the French bred Voimo was one of the highest replacement index bulls in the sale, which was boosted by a calving figure of just 6%.

Kieran also sold Atlantic HHK Josh, another five-star terminal index bull by CF 52 for €3,050.

Two bulls then shared the price tag of €3,200; the first was Cloongrehan Lucas 2, again by the popular CF 52, for Michael O’ Hara from Cootehall, Boyle, Co Roscommon; and finally Tullaghan Leroy, sired by Goldstar Echo, exhibited by Michael Daniel Daly from Tullaghan, Co Leitrim.
