MPs have debated whether agriculture should be taught in UK schools
ADVERTISEMENT
MPs from across the UK have called for agriculture to be taught as a school subject at GCSE level in England and Wales and National 5 level in Scotland. The appeal was instigated by Yorkshire member and farmer Julian Sturdy MP and backed by Scottish MPs Kirstene Hair (Angus) and Colin Clark (Gordon), in a debate on Wednesday in the House of Commons. Participants in the debate pointed to the fact that 17 schools in Northern Ireland offer a GCSE in agriculture and that the template could easily be translated to the rest of the UK.
