There was plenty of onlookers for the dairy stock at Newport, but not as many had an interest in putting a hand up to bid. In summary, the rising milk price didn’t do much for confidence in the black and white trade and maybe the sale was more a reflection of the money owed by farmers to banks, trade and contractors after a very difficult two years on milk price.
It is fair to say quality was very mixed, with a selection of very light stock all the way up to the textbook 550kg purebred black and white heifers, well presented, calving down for two years of age due in February.
