No change in wool markets
The British Wool Marketing Board held its fourth sale of the season on 5 September. The volume of wool offered increased marginally to 2.02m kg, with demand reported as relatively strong leading to a clearance rate of 89%.
The average price received was £1.24/kg, down 2p/kg on the previous sale. This equates to €1.46/kg at an exchange rate of 85p to the euro, with the price farmers receive on average 30p/kg to 35p/kg lower.

Closer to home, prices remain unchanged, with the market under pressure. Merchants are quoting €1/kg for good lowland wool and, in most cases, 20c/kg to 30c/kg less for Scottish Blackface wool. This is 30c/kg to 40c/kg lower than 2015 levels.
