Store cattle prices have dropped slightly in the past week as numbers continue to increase and feeder demand reduces slightly. Bullock prices are back by €25 to €35/head, while heifers are back by €30 to €40/head.

However, average prices continue to be €150-€170/head above the same price last year. The average 600kg bullock is currently selling for €1,340, while the average 550kg heifer is making €1,250. The weanling trade has remained firm, backed by solid farmer demand. Bulls and heifers of comparable quality are now trading at similar prices. The average 400kg bull is making €1,000, while the average 350kg heifer is making €905. Average prices continue to power ahead of the same time last year, with bull and heifers prices up €100-€145/head in 12 months.

The calf trade is firm and exporter activity has increased significantly. Export-type Friesian bulls are selling from €70 to €90, with choice lots going to €110. Demand for Angus and Hereford calves remains very strong – prices are ranging from €230 to €350/head.
