Following reports of strong interest from potential buyers, it has emerged that family owned meat processor Hewitt Meats based in Loughall has purchased Oakdale Meats’ main site in Lurgan for an undisclosed amount.

Offers in the region of £1.5m were being sought in April this year when the site was placed on the market. The site, located within the Annesborough Industrial Estate and extending to 1.4 acres, was offered for sale by real estate services company Osborne King.

It is understood that Oakdale still belongs to Dungannon and District Co-op with many shares remaining farmer owned. Throughput of cattle is thought to amount to up to 300 head per week in the Lurgan site.

Hewitt Meats was originally established as a butcher’s shop by Managing Director Jim Hewitt in 1974. The business now processes around 400 tonnes of beef per week at its boning facility near Loughgall to supply customers throughout the UK and Europe.
