In a statement to the Irish Farmers Journal, the ICSA said that at a meeting of its national executive last Thursday it was confirmed that “it is not permissible to be a spokesman for both ICSA and a political party”.

As previously reported by the Dealer, James Reynolds, ICSA national treasurer, was named alongside pro-life and anti-immigration activist Justin Barrett as a founding member of the recently formed National Party.

In its statement last week, the ICSA said it “remains strictly neutral in relation to all political parties and will continue only to advocate ICSA policies on behalf of its members”.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that Reynolds still remains as ICSA national treasurer, but if the national treasurer chooses to maintain his role within the National Party, the ICSA statement implies he is facing into a rather short future tenure with the drystock organisation.
